The Prudential Gallo—Touch of Italy Foundation will present “Viva Italia” on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Cape Henlopen High School Theater. Fresh from a stunning success at the Frederick P. Tickets can be purchased by visiting Millo made a “Cinderalla-like” debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City on Dec. 3, 1984, replacing an ailing colleague and literally causing a sensation! The next day, the papers heralded the birth of a “new Verdi star”, and 26 years later, Millo is still winning praise from critics and frenzied ovations from an adoring public. She has sung over 180 performances of 15 different roles at her artistic home, the Metropolitan Opera. Outside New York, Millo has triumphed in theaters in Frankfurt, Barcelona, Parma, Rome, Bologna, Verona, Torino, Munich, Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, Paris, Orange, Moscow, Rio de Janiero, Sao Paolo, Santiago, Buenos Aires, The Baths of Caracalla and of course, La Scala in Milan. A rare throwback to the golden age of singing, Millo offers a voice of quality and extension; able to perform Verdi and Bel Canto, as well as the demanding rigors of the Puccini and Verismo school. She is committed to the “authentic” message and tradition, continuing to “keep the faith” with long-time fans, while also winning favor with new audiences and introducing them to the world of opera. Millo has collaborated with such great conductors as Herbert von Karajan and Riccardo Muti at La Scala, Giusepe Sinopoli, as well as her great friend and mentor, James Levine. Millo has also sung in productions directed by the great Liu in Turandot, and the legendary stage and film director, Franco Zeffirelli. She was also chosed by Maestro Zefferelli to the be the voice of Elizabeth Taylor in the film “Young Toscanini”. The winner of numerous awards, Millo has won the Primo Premio-First Prize at the Voci Verdiane Concorso in Busetto, Italy, the Monserrat Caballe-Bernabe’Merti Special Verdi Prize Francisco Vinas, The Voco D’Oro, The Richard Tucker Foundation Award and the Maria Callas Foundation Award to name a few.
